Mare Services

We recommend a breeding soundness exam for all mares arriving at Elm Creek Equine. Mares that have had difficulty conceiving or maintaining a pregnancy are ideal candidates for this procedure. We also recommend a complete breeding soundness exam prior to purchasing a broodmare. 

A breeding soundness exam for your mare includes: 

• External reproductive tract exam
• Speculum exam of internal reproductive tract
• Ultrasound exam of ovaries and uterus
• Uterine culture and cytology
• Uterine biopsy (optional)

We offer artificial insemination services at our reproduction centre in Elm Creek, Manitoba. 

The services provided to all of our patients booked to fresh-cooled semen include:

• Regular ultrasound exams
• Placing semen order with stallion farm
• Collecting semen order from Winnipeg
• Insemination
• Post-insemination ultrasound
• Initial pregnancy exam

Uterine lavage and hormone therapy are used in conjunction with the services listed above if deemed necessary by one of our veterinarians  

We offer frozen insemination services at our reproduction centre in Elm Creek, Manitoba. 

The services provided to all or our patients booked to frozen semen include:

• Regular ultrasound exams
• Pick up and return of dry shipper
  • Courier fees not included
• Semen storage
• Insemination within four hours of ovulation
• Post insemination examination
• Initial pregnancy exam

Uterine lavage and hormone therapy are used in conjunction with the services listed above if deemed necessary by one of our veterinarians. 

Elm Creek Equine offers pregnancy evaluation as early as eleven days gestation. We recommend pregnancy exams at days 11-14 and again at days 25, 45 and 120. Further evaluations may be recommended for mares with a history of late term abortions. 

We provide pregnancy exams for large scale breeders at an hourly rate. Contact us for more information. 

We provide veterinary intervention for high-risk pregnancies, dystocia, retained fetal membranes and other pregnancy related health concerns for your mare. 

We offer board for mares due to foal.
